1. My goal for high school band is to learn new music, new scales, and not to breathe as often. This is my goal because I love to challenge myself and also it will help me practice more to get the notes and parts right. On the other hand, it will help me advance in playing music correctly and being in unison with other flute players. The part about the scales is that I really love to know how many scales there are in band. For the thing to not breathe as often is because it sounds weird when people hold out a note and someone breathes on it. So I really want to not breathe as much as I used to. Of course, again, I love to learn new notes and see if I can master these goals.
2. The pre-test was kinda of hard because some of the minor scales I did not know. Also I did not know what some of the signatures were at the beginning and I did not know how to draw them. The other scales were easier to draw and think about. I think the bonus questions were ok, but I think the middle one was kinda of hard because I do not know what transposition the flutes had. The counting section was ok for me because sometimes I know what goes next but then other times I don't know where they go or what comes next. That's what I thought about the pre-test.
3. Our 9/11 concert was great because we had great tone and were very loud to emphasize the meaning of 9/11. 9/11 was a tragedy to the whole United States and made us come together more than we had in the past. The songs that we performed were really good because like I said we had really great tone and were very loud. My favorite song from our concert was the Armed Forces. We performed that song really well and the kids loved it.
4. My Smart Music score is a 29. This Smart Music was kind of hard for me because it went fast, but I knew all the notes. It was just the speed of how the assignment went and it got me confused.
5. For the first piece of concert music, which is called "Rejoice The Season", one thing that I want to learn about this is from measure 12 to measure 23 to learn how to play those notes. A second thing I want to learn about this piece is how to play 105 through 107 because sometimes I can't play notes fast and I have to cut it down into pieces, so I might need some help to get those measures faster when we get more into the concert music. A third thing I want to learn about this piece is what are the top notes on top of another notes? For the second piece of concert music, which is called "How The Grinch Stole Christmas", one thing that I want to learn about this piece is how to play notes that have the dot on top of them. A second thing I want to learn about this piece is how to play the notes at the beginning of measure 76. A third thing I want to learn about this piece is what do the notes mean in measure 38. For the third piece of concert music, which is called "Once in Royal David's City", one thing I want to learn what the sign > means on top of the note on measure 26. A second thing I want to learn about this piece is like in measure 51 through 52 is how fast we are going to play that part and what it is going to sound like. A third thing I want to learn about this piece is what an A tempo is. For the last piece of concert music, which is called "Christmas Eve/Sarajevo 12/24", one thing I want to learn about this piece is that is 1st flute harder than 2nd flute? A second thing I want to learn about this piece is if the key signature says it has two flats and there is sharps, is that called an accidental? A third thing I want to know about this piece is why are there commas after a measure which are measures 63 through 70.
6. Rejoice First Impression- my impression on this song was okay. I didn't know it was going to be that fast. But I think I did okay with the notes and how fast to go.
7. My impressions on my a flat and f minor scales are okay because I know I can do better and I will study them to get them perfect and get them in my memory bank.
8. My recent smart music is scores were all 100%, expect for my Bb scale, which that one was a 93%.
9. My first impressions on the Christmas concert music would be that they are getting better for me because I know what the notes are that I have was having trouble with. I feel like I have gotten better on the "Grinch" and "Christmas Eve".
10. On my individual performance on the Christmas songs are that I am getting better at them, but sometimes I get stuck on some notes and I also I ask my people of what they are. As we get closer to the concert, I will be even better than now because I will know what the notes are and how to play them.
11. For the memorization of scales, I am pretty good on most of them but like the last two we did, I am still having some trouble on them. I am going to study those really hard to know them from heart. Otherwise, I know all of them.
12. Reflection On Pep Band- My commitment to pep band is very important because I love playing at the games when I have time to. I performed at 3-4 games this season. I mostly played at the required because I wasn't able to play at the volunteer games because of cheer if we were doing floor cheers or dances. The letter grade I would give myself would be A because I came to all the required games and 2 volunteer games when I could. Pep Band is an important to Newark because everyone starts to enjoy the game when they recognize the songs we are playing. Another reason is it gets the players pumped up to win their games. One last reason is that everyone else in the gym starts dancing or singing the words to the song and they enjoy it. My top 3 Pep Band songs would be "Livin' On A Prayer", "Crazy Train", and "Lady Gaga". I love these top 3 songs because I love the beat to them and like how everyone has different parts. My bottom 3 would be "Party Rock", "YMCA", and "Eye Of The Tiger". These are my least favorite songs because some of the notes are hard for me to play because of how fast we go, but I know how to play them, it's just the tempo. The one song I would chose would be "Don't Stop Believin'" and the measure that I improved on would be 11-12 because the notes are getting easier for me and I can keep up with the other flutes now. A song that I would pick would be "Road Less Traveled" by Lauren Alaina.
